Attendance Matters

Did you know that more than one in five students missed over 20 days of school last year ?

Today, the Minister for Education and TESS have launched a new nationwide campaign to change that — supporting regular school attendance and helping every child get the best from their education.

This campaign highlights the importance of being in school every day, building a culture where attendance matters for every child’s:

Learning

Wellbeing

Friendships

In 2023, the Department ran the “Every School Day Counts” initiative to raise awareness of attendance. The new 2025 campaign builds on that work with:

Fresh measures

New resources

Updated messaging to reflect today’s challenges
