U19 Soccer

This was a keenly contested quarter-final played in a very strong gale. St Clements booked their semi-final spot for the second year running, beating a younger, skilful Comp side 3-1. For the first 20 minutes, Comp playing with the gale had St Clements under serious pressure and only some fine tackling and a committed team effort held them scoreless. Cian Clifford was unlucky not to score twice for Comp. Patrick McDonagh, the left winger, was a serious threat and his combination play with midfielder Evan Cusack forced some fine saves from keeper Hickey. Neil Wallace opened the scoring when his powerful shot against the gale found the top corner. Comp equalised shortly after half time through Brian Ryan and the pressure was back on the Clements eleven. Luck was on their side though when Neil Wallace was upended twenty minutes later and Darragh Kelly netted the resulting penalty. Craig McNamara ensured the win scoring Clements third minutes from time. The committed, hardworking Clements team earned their chance to take on Pallaskenry in the 19’s semi-final. Best of luck!
