The Lifesaver Project

On the 12 November 2014 the transition year students went to the Life Saver Project which was held in the South Court Hotel. When we arrived there, two cars had been set up to look as if they had crashed. Out of nowhere a garda car, ambulance and a fire truck rushed in. There were actors in each car pretending that they had been in a collision.  They acted out the parts of 4 people involved-3 drivers and a parent. The garda, ambulance and fire service showed how they deal with a situation like this for example cutting the top of a car if necessary. The atmosphere was very solemn and heavy, the performance was very eye opening and emotional.

After this we all went into the South Courts conference hall and we were shown a presentation on road traffic collisions and how they affect everyone involved, be it the families, friends and even the men and women of the services. We saw clips from certain collisions where people were made quadroplegic for example and how the collision had ruined their life.

Overall this was a very good trip to go to as it was an eye opener in the danger of driving, especially when not giving it all your attention such as texting, or drink driving. I think all teenagers should be made go to this as they will be driving in the future and this is a very effective in showing them the dangers of driving.
